Running Top in Sun OS


hi friends,

I wanted to run the top command on SUN OS 10.
So through the googling,i found a package "top-3.5beta8-sol26-intel-local.gz".I downloded it from "http://www.sunfreeware.com/ftp/pub/freeware/i386/5.6/".

When i installed it my Server,top command is still not working..Please help me out..

I have done the below things..
------
bash-3.00# pkgadd -d top-3.5beta8-sol26-intel-local

The following packages are available:
1 WLtop top
(Intel) 3.5beta8

Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to process

Now when i am running top..it throuhing the below error..
bash-3.00# top
bash: /usr/local/bin/top: Invalid argument


Help me friends..

Hi,

This is a Solaris 2.6 package. You should go to sunfreeware to download the correct package. Before installing it, try to uninstall the wrong one.

alias top="prstat -a"

Yes, use "prstat" instead. It is more accurate than "top".

bathory can u share me the link for SUN OS 10..

coz i was only able to get the link for that package which i installed..

Blinker_Fluid and kebabbert, i will surely try prstat command.

But i also need to run top.. Please help to get the required package..

Hi,

Are you sure you're running Solaris 10 on a x86 box?
I've pointed you the x86 top package, because in your 1st post you mentioned "top-3.5beta8-sol26-intel-local.gz", but I think you're running Solaris on sparc, which can explain the error you get.
In this case you'll need the sparc package and of course uninstall this one.

You are absolutely correct.. thats was my mistake that i didn't tell you the exact thing..

bash-3.00# uname -a
SunOS Proddb2 5.10 Generic_144488-02 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-880
Now i have downloded and installed top-3.6.1-sol10-sparc-local.gz

This is working and running..
