Problems compiling Linux apps on Solaris 10
Does anyone know how to install Linux applications in Solaris 10. I've tried running configure and it comes up with a load of errors.
#./configure
Loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... ./install-sh -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... ./configure: make: not found
no
checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for gnome-config... no
checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found
configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install
the best I got from sun was "Sir, in whole honesty it's probably more trouble than it's worth, however from the error messages it seems that your development tools are not installed."
it is a full install of Solaris 10 inc Developement tools....
If anyone can help I would be most grateful!!

Uhh.. gcc dude. You need a compiler. Solaris development has jack squat to do with open source compilers. You need GCC with all the trimmings.
http://gcc.gnu.org/
Sun makes me sad sometimes, but then I think.. who cares.

Apparently developer tools were missing from your installation, that you need to build open source applications.
Please follow this thread and install the developer tools:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=293475
Then it will be a piece of cake to build the applications (of course, you can except some glitches if the C/C++ code is platform specific and/or using non-{portable/standard} extensions to the language)
Also check http://www.sunfreeware.com for the packages you are looking for, before you start building it; it saves some time & effort
Have fun debugging the code

Get the gcc compiler from www.sunfreeware.com. You will still need the development tools. If you selected the "end user" install you will not get the tools. You want to do a full install.
