printer system recommends?
I have a lexmark ethernet postcript printer.
I am on solaris 10 x86. Haven't to it going yet. What sort of prining set up is the best? Shall I download CUPS which I am ok with or use the new style solaris print setup? |
I've found CUPS to be easy to set up (on both Linux and Solaris systems) and that it "just works;" i.e., no fiddling required, thank you. Given that CUPS is the common denominator between your Linux and Solaris boxes, well, I'd lean that way. One suggestion: set your printer to a fixed IP (like 192.168.1.NN or whatever your internal LAN address might be), stick the name and address in /etc/hosts, and life will be good.

yes, I ponced around trying at least to find some documentation on the ipp server
(Sun is good though there is so much of it to wade through i couldn't find what i needed) It got late so I gave up, added CUPS and it just worked. I wanted to try the new system, mainly as it's integrated with SMF; which I think is one of the best ideas to come along in unix for years and years. |
