Practicallity of Solaris 11.4 as a desktop
I have problems getting the wireless to show up, which isn't a automatic no-go because the Ethernet works.

More serious, the sound card doesn't work.

I am using on e of those HP all in one desktops with an Intel chip and Nvidia graphics card. It DID see the graphics card.

There doesn't seem to be any third party repositories with extra drivers anywhere. Should I just consider it a learning experience and go back to Linux Mint or some other more sensible versions of Linux instead?

Solaris did correctly diagnosis my hard drive as failing so I put in a new one. I can't consider it all bad for that.

You're probably better off using Linux, but you might try OpenIndiana if you're set on using a Solaris-based OS:

I used to like Solaris a lot when they first opened it up at Sun. Haven't played with it for a while. If I had an old Sun machine I'd run it.

I've also tried Solaris 10. Sadly enough, its also disappointing. It seems like they don't really care about workstations anymore.
