OpenSolaris LiveUSB Creator

I just spent an interesting couple of hours using OpenSolaris Live USB Creator (Windows/.NET), written by Mr. Hiroshi Chonan, to make a live usb stick (16g SanDisk Cruzer). The OS is OpenSolaris preview 2010.02 build 118. Just as the name suggests I d/l osol-1002-118-x86.usb to my XP box, started the utility, inserted the stick and installed the OS. Very straightforward and easy. The stick booted up on my laptop, started my wireless (iwl3945) and auto-connected to my router (MiFi2200). Very pleased. I then installed the OS to my h/d. I am now trying to decide what flavor of linux to put on the other half of the hard drive. It has been a very good day!

Thanks for sharing that.

@jlliagre I am very intrigued by OpenSolaris, especially the ZFS file system. I have read many of your posts and found them to be very informative. Thanks for that and "see" you around.

OpenSolaris is of course dead but I decided to revisit it's successor OpenIndiana, which is nearly dead, :-). I used the same utilty and procedure to install "SunOS openindiana 5.11 oi_151a8 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris" on a 2 gig usb key and post using my Mifi2200. I wish there were more interest in this OS, I think it has great potential.

It was a wonderful OS. Still is. Oracle seems to want it do die off for some reason.
