hi,
i've managed to install opensolaris 10 but i've got no internet connection. the browser(on the bottom bar) indicates it connected but an error message says unable to locate the home url, or any url that i type in..?
i've got 1.5meg DSL using verizon's modem and belkin router all working correctly, as i use other linux distros and an eMac. the PC i use is setup with a swapable HDD using an optical drivebay making it easy for me to use many different distros
without dealing with dual-booting. i've used a variety of linux distros so this is a first time thing for me with solaris.
i don't think this is a hardware issue, and i suspect it might
be a: the router
b: network
c: browser
oh, the PC is a clone using an Asus A7V333 mobo with an Athalon
1.4 gig processor and 1.5 gigs of DDR RAM.
anyone got an idea sure would be great
Not quite sure it's in the right forum, but maybe a mod can move it for you..
Anyways, if you have Internet connection from another machine, you can rule out the router being the problem. It's more likely to be your network config. Is the network card actually detected (and if not, what make + model of card is it)? Can you ping your router to check you have physically connectivity? If not, look back at the device drivers and your IP addressing. If it works, can you ping externally via IP address and then via domain name? Incorrect DNS servers could also be a problem if it can resolve names to address when pinging externally. That should be a few things for you to be getting on with
thanks for the response, your probibly right about the network card undetected, i tried in terminel to xping with no anwser so i'll next have to
check the network card
