Opening BMP and JPG images in Solaris 10?

Under Windows just now I saved alot of BMP images under Microsoft paint. Then I burned those images on a CD-R and then booted again to Solaris and placed those images on my Home directory...

So...managed to locate those image BMP files on my home directory and the icons look like the lightning bolt icon. And when I double click it, It gives me an error message that it cannot open it. Plus I went to Image Viewer, and located there and does the same thing. I will not open my images that I saved. And there NOT read-Only, I double checked...

So then, I opened up StarOffice, and then I located the images there and then it opened up there. But my question is, these are all map images so how would I draw a red line across the map image using StarOffice?

Also, how can I just open these images without doing this the long way???

Please help. Its no biggy, because I can always boot into Windows again and make things happen there...

Thanks!

Can you carefully rephrase that in plain english, I don't understand at all what you mean.
