Open Solaris - Can't Print to USB printer - Is it CUPS or What?
Hi,
I've got OpenSolaris latest ed w/update. I have a Samsung ML-1210 laser printer hooked up via USB and also connected to my router's print server.
I went into System/Administration/Print Manger and added the printer. All seemed OK. Then I went into System/Administration/Solaris LP Print Manger to turn of the banner page. Again, all seemed OK. But this thing won't print. If I print something from Firefox, and open the print mgr, it shows that it is paused. If I click and change to resume, the status changes to Ready. But nothing prints. Also, in OpenOffice Writer when I select File/Print, it says the default printer is "Generic Printer" and the printer type is SGENPRT. Why can't I change that to the Samsung?
I went into Services, and discovered CUPS was not enabled, though I had done that on an earlier day. So apparently there is something that I have to do to make CUPS start each boot. I can't figure out why this doesn't work because in the Solaris Express Dev. Ed. it automatically recognized my printer as soon as the USB cable was plugged in. It then asked if I wanted to load the driver, and was ready to print thereafter. What happened to this version?
Oh yeah, what's the command to tell the version of Solaris you're using?
Thanks,
T
