How well does Solaris do at the 'end' of the drive? I have installed Debian and am wanting to install Solaris now. I have 37Gib set aside for it.

GParted looks like this: (|is full--->////is empty)

So the /'s would be the 'end' of the drive then?

I'm not familiar with gparted and what it means with "empty" and "full". All you need is a free primary partition slot. Solaris can be installed whatever its partition location on the disk.

OK-so just make sure it is installing on the free space, not the Debain partition?

It won't, unless you tell the installer to take the whole disk.

It doesn't read the unused partition I made. Why?

What is this unused partition you made ?

As I wrote, Solaris (like *BSDs, Mac OS/X, Windows) requires a primary partition, it is able to create it, but you must have unallocated free space on your disk for it.

It looks as if you actually created two primary partitions after the extended one - is that correct?

No, it looks like there is no room for third primary partition, all disk space is used for first primary and extended partitions.
