No network on SUN Ultra 10
 

Hi,

I am configuring an application on a new SUN Ultra 10 Workstation. Actually, this computer is very old but has been kept in a store. I found Solaris 2.6 on it and I am currently trying to connect via FTP but the network interface seems dead. I am getting the following error message on boot-up:

SUNW, hme0: Link Down - cable problem?

The cable is fine.
Regretfully I am still trying to locate the documentation.
I am hoping someone has experience on these machines and knows of someway the network may be enabled, perhaps from BIOS. Any references to relevant on-line manuals would also help as I am not experienced at all on Solaris or SUN workstations.

This message usually means the cable is disconnected or connected to a faulty hub. It might also be that the interface is set to 10 Mbps while the other end-point is 100 Mbps only.

Thank you for the link, I will download the relevant docs asap.
I set the SUN WS on my desk for testing. The cable is fine and hub can take both 10 and 100MBps links. The hub and its port are fine as well. I intend to contact the local SUN hardware support for the Ethernet port.

For the benefit of anyone who ends up here through a Search and for the satisfaction to those that tried to help I would like to inform the readers that this issue was resolved by the local SUN agent after they changed the Motherboard.
