Hi, I am working on NIS reconfiguration.
The Ultra60 was in other network and now I want to set it for my domain, using it as a NIS client.

My trouble is that upon a boot up there's this message:

starting rpc services: rpcbind keyserv ypservmakedbm: couldn't
open /var/yp/mydomain/passwd.byname dbm file
ypbind done.
----

It's possible that I've messed up and tried something for the NIS server? How can I get rid of it and have clear response?

Then boot goes further and I can telnet to the WS, and even check NIS user id (while logged as root):
SU ultra.dom#id user12
uid=3807(user12) gid=541(fg1)

This user is not in local (Ultra60) passwd or shadow files, so I believe that ypbind works. ypwhich responds with correct NIS server name, too. Ping to it says - alive.

But if I do
SU ultra.dom#su - user12
No directory! ------------ # csh and home aren't configured yet
SU ultra.dom#id
SU ultra.dom#uid=0(root) gid=1(other)

Any help is appreciated.
