manage x window
Hi!
I run solaris 9 onto a sun ultrasparc5 and i'd like to know more about x window on solaris.
I can find anything about it onto sun doc.... except the whole development guide.....
First of all, x window start at boot. I would prefer to start on a terminal and then "startx" when i feel like it.
The stuf is that in /etc/init.d i don't see anything like Xfree86-common, or something like that.
So, where is it specified that X should start when system does init?
I found a whole world in /usr/openwindow
....
Thanks
G

does solaris have an /etc/inittab file? that's what sets the runlevel in *nix.

Xfree86 is for x86 hardware, SPARC is not.
You can disable automatic X11 startup with the command:
Solaris doesn't use a specific run level for X11 unlike Linux.

Thanks!
By the way, i'd have another question!
I'd like t oexport the whole solaris display on my linux box.
on linux : xhost + solaris_machine
on solaris : export DISPLAY=linux_machine:0.0
then lauch app on solaris should be displayed on the Linux_machine.
But it doesn't work....
However, i'd like the whole CDE environment from solaris to be displayed on the Linux.
like the linux F8 terminal to reflect the solaris X server.
Do you have any idea how to do this?

Allright,
I can export single app now.
I guess, i would need to export the equivalent of gdm on solaris to have a xsession loggin and the whole CDE environment.
But i don't have a clue what is the application that manage the xsession login on solaris....

Yeah! it works now!
thanks jlliagre : everything was of course connected with dtconfig.
i edited /usr/dt/config/Xacces and put the client hostname there.
then /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -reset
On the linux client :
X :1 -query serv eur_name
Now i have two xsessions on the linux box and i can easily switch : one locally and the other one from the solaris box.
Save me the price of a kvm
