Journey Into Solaris Land

Just a quick question. I have been messing with Linux for years. Running 2 CentOS servers and 1 Mandriva workstation. I've always wanted to dive into and check out a solaris system. I understand that it can run on a x86 system but wouldn't a sparc system be better? I did a search on ebay and came across a Sun Blade 100 500Mhz with 512M ram pretty cheap. I guess I'm just not sure if it would be worth it. Any opinions on something like this.
Thanks.

You are correct - everything in Solaris works much better on the Sparc platform.

There's nothing wrong with Solaris on x86, runs faster than Linux distros that I've used, but Sparc is the preferred platform.

Well, I've ordered that Sun Blade 100 machine and already downloaded the sparc cd's. I just hope I can have a positive solaris experience :)
