Hi,

The problem is not the java desktop system, but the underlying Solaris Configuration, or in this case lack of it.
You need to set the following files.

/etc/hosts
/etc/netmasks
/etc/hostname.{interface}

Then hopefully when you reboot solairs will load up the right networking configuration.

Java Desktop System is not Solaris but is Suse Linux based (8.2 I guess), you'd better either ask that question on a more pertinent forum, or ... install Solaris x86 !

Ok Just been to to sun site to check out this Java desktop. It will run on any linux platform or solaris.
yuva_mca if your having problems with the Java desktop then I guess your post is in the wrong place. If you having network problems, then its down to the host os underneath the Java desktop, please bit a bit more specific, and then maybe we can help.

Java Desktop System is not yet released for Solaris (estimated mid 04), so yuva_mca's O/S is undoubtedly Linux.

Concerning the firewall question, Solaris 9 comes with SunScreen Firewall, not sure if it is bundled with the free version, but you can probably download it for free separately if it is not.
You can also install ipfilters.
