Hi all

I installed Solaris 10 on my PC without much trouble. But I couldn't get the internet to work if my life depended on it. I have an external DSL router running through an 8 Port switch. Now I can't ping anything, not even the router. The /usr/X11/bin/scanpci command showed me the ethernet card, so I suppose there are no driver problems. The lights on the card and the switch are on. I suppose I have to alter some text files to do it, but all the walkthroughs I found on the net didn't help.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong all the time

Can anyone help me please? All tips are appreciated a lot.

what does it shows ?

The PCI Bus and the name of the Card (Via Technologies whatever...)

I know what scanpci shows, I'm asking for what it shows precisely for your card.
"Via technology whatever" is a bit vague to provide help.
The important information is a couple of hex numbers (manufacturer code/device code).

It says: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105 [Rhine-III]

To be honest, I think I'll leave the whole thing for now because I spent hours (literally) trying to solve this very problem.. Now I'm back on Linux again for the moment. Will try to solve it in a couple of days when I have the energy to do so.. Thanks a lot for your help

Oh thanks a lot! But will I really need that? I mean Solaris was able to detect that particular model, it's reported on the Solaris HCL and the little lights on the card were lit up.. Ah well I'll give it a try.

But now I'm faced with another issue: Now that I've reinstalled Linux again after Solaris, I'll have to figure out a way to configure grub to boot Solaris, because now I can't anymore..

Once I get that done, I'll try again. Thanks a bunch for your help!

that driver should works nicely , i had tested on a via rhine , its a good driver ...

if you still cant get it to work on your rhine card , you can get a standard intel eth card , no need a third party driver , solaris itself should be able to configure it for you ...

grub cannot boot Solaris 10, but it can chainload Solaris own boot loader.
Solaris express use grub to boot itself when on x86/x64 architecture.

Yeah I managed to get Solaris to boot up again. Tomorrow I'll start working on this whole internet problem again. Once again, thanks!
