Question Installing Solaris 11.3 on Ubuntu

Hi!

I'm trying to install Oracle Solaris 11.3 Live Media (using USB) on the netbook with the Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS but the problem is every time I boot with the system it gives me the message "grub loading...." then it restart itself.

Can anyone please guide me how can I fix this problem?

I dont understand. You have a netbook, and on the laptop, you have installed Ubuntu? And now you want to install Solaris as well on the netbook? By partitioning the hard disk in two? Well, this might be involved if you have installed Ubuntu on the whole disk, because in that case you need to shrink the Ubuntu partition. This might be tricky if you are not used to computers.

It might be easier to install VirtualBox in Ubuntu, and then install Solaris inside Virtualbox. In this case you dont need to partition the hard disk or change anything, this is the easiest solution I think. Just boot up Ubuntu, and then install VirtualBox. Then you start VirtualBox and install the Solaris ISO in the VirtualBox. Google for VirtualBox, and look at youtube videos on VirtualBox.

Thanks for the reply, I don't remember mentioning anything about the laptop; reason I mentioned about netbook so there is no confusion about not using the CD drive.

Here is what I'm trying to do;
  • Install Solaris on the netbook which already has Ubuntu (I have no problem formatting the HDD and install Solaris from scratch)

When I boot the system using the USB (Which has Solaris 11.3 Media Live) I get the message for one second saying gurb loading.... then the system restart itself.
  • I'm trying to figure out why it's restarting itself

VirtualBox is not the solution I'm looking for.

Assuming the message appears when you boot on the USB media, did you check it isn't corrupted with the md5 checksum? Does that media correctly boots on another hardware?
