I need independent cd or dvd that i can load in a windows environment


does anyone know if it is at all possible to get one of the following (any ver):

Sun solaris
Unix
or Linux

on cd or dvd that i can run in a windows environment or maybe a bootable version. i want to run one of the above but i dont want to install on my machine. any suggestions?

I would suggest a liveCD distro such as Knoppix. Check out distrowatch.com for a list of availabe distros.

There are numerous Qemu images for open-source OSes, I believe the same goes for VMware.

And of course there are liveCDs based on OpenSolaris, Belenix and Nexenta, the latter available as a VMWare image too.
