How to rollover the active log file in solaris without loosing any info

Hi

As normally I am facing the problem for Disk Space in which the active log file is used to taking too much space in respective slice.

For example

in /var/log I have syslog which is taking up more than 2.8 GB

2884753345 May 10 23:01 syslog

Now in above case is there any utility to rollover the same like syslog.o and will create new on syslog, so that I can gzip the syslog.o.

Please suggest

Thanks
Rajan

Hey There,

You can setup logadm. Sun wrote it so it's (maybe/maybe not) the best tool for the job :)

Best wishes,
