Hi

how to check the tar version?
Os version is
$ uname -a
SunOS zanerpuat 5.10 Generic_142900-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V890

Okay, you are using the regular Solaris 10 tar. So please read (again?) my reply in post #14.

Hi ,

You mean to say i used the below command

pax -r -s '/.*\///' -f apps_st.gz

In my case i want to the file from /u03/bkprod/apps_st.gz to /u02/backup.

i have used tar -cvf command to copy a file to /u03 location.

now i want this backup to restore to /u02/backup location.

How i used the above commmand?

I'm not sure to precisely understand what you are asking for but you might try this:

cd /u02/backup 
pax -r -s '/.*\///' -f /u03/backup_23042011/apps_tar.gz
