how do i get the max display resolution 1280x800 out of my solaris10
Hello,i just move to solaris 10 from solaris 9, i have a 14.5" wide screen hp laptop but i could only get 1024x768 out of it i would like to get the max resolution of 1280x800;is there anyone who can help in this respect. Thank you all in advance.

What X server (Xsun or Xorg) and graphic card driver are you using ?

I dont know how to check which xserver i use,i am running solaris10 11/06 on x86 32bit on my hp510 laptop;from my winXp partition i have this adapter info:mobile intel(R)915GM/GMS,910Gl Express chipset.The laptop is 14.5 inches and a max resolution of 1280x800 as seen on winXP and refresh rate of 60HZ.Thanks and i hope to hear from you.

Laptops are far better supported with Solaris Express.
Have a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log if you are using Xorg (likely).

The command kdmconfig should show you what Xserver you are using - just look and see what box is checked and then just press ^C - and if you want to see the max resolution your screen can do I would suggest - /usr/X11/bin xvinfo | grep max - that should show you max resolution - and if you are using X11(I am pretty sure you would be) it is quite easy to force the resolution to what you want it to be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf - or just run /usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig or /usr/X11/bin/xorgcfg
