Has Anyone tried OpenSolaris w/an SSD?
Has anyone tried using an SSD as the main HDD to run osol on? Any problems, caveats, warnings? Thanks.

i have used osol on a hdd netbook without problems as long as you use the vesa mode but i have never heard of any problems when using ssd but maybe try disablling backups and adding noatime to fstab

I dont think there any problems (except ZFS does not support the TRIM command yet). When/if ZFS supports TRIM, you dont have to reinstall or anything. Just upgrade ZFS to the TRIM version and TRIM will start to work immediately without you needing to take any actions. TRIM seems to be no big deal, actually. ZFS has long used ZIL and L2ARC as SSDs, without TRIM.
I am planning to install OpenIndiana on a SSD soon. |
Thanks to theacerguy and kebabbert. I don't know what TRIM is, but I can look it up later.
