Disable Root login via ssh
Solaris 10 is installed on my SUNWS.
I sucessfully installed ssh and can ssh my sunws from windows.
But I want to disable root login because the root login is not preferred.
The following is what I have done:
# vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config
<1>Edit the PermitRootLogin configuration.
PermitRootLogin no
<2> restart sshd process
# ps -ef | grep sshd
# kill sshd_process_id
# /usr/local/sbin/sshd
However, I also can remotely login my SUNWS from winxp via ssh.
I wonder the reason because I have set the PermitRootLogin to no.
Thanks!

Have you checked the manual page for this PermitRootLogin parameter usage ?

By default root login is disabled. Check again /sshd_config. You can also delete (or rename) the .ssh subdirectory under the root's homedir.
To restart the service it's better to use:
Code:
/etc/init.d/sshd stop
/etc/init.d/sshd start

Sorry, I forget to tell you I use telnet to login the server not ssh.
I know that ssh has PermitRootlogin to disable the root remote login.
I edit the /etc/default/login as follows.
CONSOLE=0
Then, I disable the root login from console. I wonder whether other methods else is available.
Thanks
Best Regards.
