Difference between SNMPD and SNMPDX
Hi guys,
I'd like to send traps from an Oracle database which is installed on a Solaris machine to an HP Openview SNMP manager. In the process of configuring the whole thing up, I came across two daemons - One is SNMPD which is listening on port 11161 and the other one is SNMPDX which is listening on port 11611:

The first daemon is not part of standard solaris software, and probably is the result of the installation of net-snmp (sourceforge), the second one is part of solaris.
SNMPDX is Solaris's SNMP master agent. SNMPD is the SNMP master agent from the NET-SNMP project. From your process list, it looks to me like SNMPDX is being used to proxy SNMP requests to the SNMPD on port 11161. In the case where SNMPDX is being used to proxy requests to SNMPD, SNMPDX is important. This is a fairly common method used to extend Solaris's Master agent. I would leave everthing as is.
