Configuring a Solaris 10 server as a DNS Client?
Hi.
I've got a Solaris 10 server with one of the configured NICs connected to a VLAN separate from the rest of my network.
This VLAN talks to a provided router wherein they're doing NAT'ing.
I was instructed to set the DNS for this particular NIC to a specific IP address for their DNS server (no name, just the IP address).
The person instructing me isn't familiar with Solaris
and I'm not familiar enough with Solaris to know exactly where I enter this info:
Does it go in /etc/resolv.conf and if so is the entry simply "nameserver <IP Address>"?
Does it go anywhere else?
Docs where I might find guidance?
Thanks for any assistance.

You also need to add dns as a hosts naming service your /etc/nsswitch.conf file:
Code:
...
hosts: files dns
...
Restarting nscd might also be necessary:
Code:
# svcadm restart name-service-cache
