Certificate installation?
 

First off thx in advance for any and all help. I just found this forum and hopefully you guys can help me.

I was wondering if anyone new how to install a .cer certificate file on a Solaris 8 sparc box? I have been trying to do this for several days now and can't seem to get it to install.

Currently I am attempting to do this with the "keytool" command in the java package but consistantly run into dead-ends. It asks for keystores, passwords, and such and I am lost as to how to make this work.

If anyone has a step-by-step procedure on the installation for the .cer files or where to find one I would gladly appreciate it.

What application is going to be using the certificate? Is it going to be in a Java keystore? If yes, then you will need to know passwords and such.

This is going to be used by a patching software. Our company requires the program to contact a website that uses https (443). To accept the connections certificates must also be used (*.cer file). I am trying to load these files onto the machine so it can gain access to the machine.

I assume it is java related just from an error it generated but I don't have that error anymore. Also I don't know anything about keystores or passwords. What are these passwords and where can they be found? Also what is a java keystore and how can i create one?

On the server side, what application is going to be reading and presenting the certificate to the client? Is it an inhouse application that your company is written? Is it Apache, Tomcat, etc? Also, is your certificate in the proper format that your application expects?
