Cannot start X Server?

I have just dont a clean install on Solaris 8 on a system, all seemed to be working ok.

Now when i try and log in (in this case its root), the screen flickers and attempts to load CDE, but then just goes back to the loging screen.

After a few attempts it says "X Server cannot be run on Display: 0"

Anyeone got any ideas on whats wrong and how i fix it? Bit of a newbie myself.

Probably a silly question, but are you sure you configured X's .conf file properly?

First check if you can start an X session in secure mode (select it in the login screen options menu).
If it works, you'll have a xterm window, run "dtwm" on it and see what happens.
