Welcome to LQ !

You shouldn't use a graphic environment and a web browser as root.

What contains line 66 of the /.netscape/preferences.js file ? Is it the last line of this file ?

Seems like you're having network problems as well. Is the host you're trying to reach up? Can you get to it from another machine? Can you ping any other addresses on that network? Can you get to ANY other sites/addresses?

No,That is not the last line.preferences.js contains a string missing a closing quote in that line.I closed it.

After doing that, when I am giving the web-site name in trying to connect that but not able to connect(Connect:Host www.google.co.in connected, waiting for reply..) but after that It is giving the error-

A network error occurred while netscape was receiving data.(Network error:connection reset by peer)
Try connecting again.

what is mean by network error and how can i solve it ??

Thanks in advance for replying...

Is your browser configured to use a proxy ?
Was Internet access previously working on this machine ?

It says it in your post: "HOST UNKNOWN". Either that name isn't in DNS, you're having DNS problems, or it's not in /etc/hosts.

Ah, ok...you're trying to connect to a particular port. Since you're saving an address as a variable, and can ping the address, can you attach to the PORT you're trying to connect to???

The error message is likely to mean your machine is trying to access a machine named "perforce" and fails to find an IP address for it.

Either properly set the DNS or add perforce to /etc/hosts.

Yes, we can see what the port number is. My question to you was: CAN YOU CONNECT TO THAT PORT??? I know you can ping it, but that's an ICMP echo request. Is the service on the remote box that provides port 1666 up and available????
