Belenix 0.7.1 (OpenSolaris) - Firefox Plugin directory

Hi,

I've got Belenix installed, and I would like to install the flash player into Firefox. The instructions say to copy a file into the Firefox Mozilla plugins directory. Does anyone know how to find this directory. I don't want the one in the user's directory, but the main plugin directory for the program. It's Firefox 3. Thanks.

Hey there,

Did you install it as a pkg file? If so you can either use the pkginfo command to list out all the package contents and find it that way. Alternately, it should also be listed in the pkginfo database in /var/sadm/install/contents (you can just grep out of that file if you want).

Generally, with firefox installed as a pre-compiled self-standing tar file, you should be able to use find to just search for the plugin directory in firefox's root.

Let me know if this info is too general.

Best wishes,

Mike

If you are using a standard package, that should be /usr/lib/firefox/plugins.

You can check it with that command:

Code:
pkgchk SUNWfirefox 2>&1 | grep libnullplugin.so
pkginfo gives meta informations about a package but not individual file path.

To eggixyz (Mike): Thanks for replying. Firefox was already installed with the installation of Belenix/OpenSolaris. Adobe flash did not come as a pkg, so it was a manual installation. But I finally found the directory so I could install it. No, you weren't to general. I'm trying to learn unix, and I'm having more problem learning solaris types than linux or even BSD.

To jlliagre:
Thanks for the command. I don't know how people ever learn Unix like Solaris I would have never guessed "pkgchk SUNWfirefox 2>&1 | grep libnullplugin.so". I might have gotten as far as pkgchk firefox, but that's it. I had been using Midnight Commander to search for the plugins directory, and had not used the correct word for search. Anyway, I finally found it in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins as you listed. Thanks.

Cool,

Glad you found that and thanks to Jlliagre for the much cleaner solution than my old-school scrounging through the system files
