Attaching new nic

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit new to solaris (actually extremely) new. Anyhow, tonight I'm going to add a nic that is supported by solaris x86. Would it automatically pick up the nic? I am running solaris 8. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You need pass the "-r" option to the boot command (or create a file named /reconfigure before rebooting) to have the /dev directory updated

Then create a file in the form hostname.xyz0, with xyz beeing the name of your card driver (eg. iprb0) and containing the ip address you want to give to your interface (when fixed IP). That should be enough if I don't forget things.

Another simpler option is to run "sys-unconfig", and answer to the questions at reboot for the IP settings.

thanks, that worked! Had to fiddle a bit with nsswitch.conf to resolve correctly but as for the driver being to be seen by the OS....it was solid.
