Assigning Memory and CPU caps to Zones

Hello,

I've installed a Virtual Server on my machine using Zones and ZFS.

How can I allocate memory an CPUs (I have a T2000) to the virtual machines? I'm running Solaris 10 11/06

Hi there:

On 11/06, you limit the number of cpus with the creation of resource pools.
The 2 commands to look at are poolcfg and pooladm. You will need to create the file /etc/pooladm.conf and after creating the pool, type zonecfg -z zone_name and type set pool=mypool. Commit the changes and exit.

Regarding memory, in 11/06 you do it from the non-global zone via rcapd.
Type rcapadm -E to enable the facility and look at the man page for projadd and the file /etc/project.

In 08/07, it is much easier since you can do all that from zonecfg in the global zone. Find the document about what is new in 08/07.

Good luck,

J.
