A performance problem while writing to a shared folder (NFS/SMB) with Windows VM

Hi.

I've got a Debian testing and a Windows Server 2003 VM running onto an OpenSolaris (updated to build 93). Reading and writing from and to an NFS shared folder from debian has no problem. Reading from the same folder from the Windows Server 2003 VM (both via NFS, with Windows Services for Unix or via SMB) has good performance, even if apparently slightly worse than Debian. Writing to this folder from Windows, insted, is really painful: on the average, I reach 1 MB/minute!

Do you have any hint to diagnose the problem? The fact that reading and writing from Debian and reading from Windows show no problem lets me think that there's no issue with the server.

Thanks for your help,
Enrico.

Curious, I've got some more info. When using Windows, the problem appears for the first time (after a Windows VM reboot) when I read and write at the same time in the same shared folder. If I copy a from, or write a file to, the shared folder, the behavior appears normal. As soon as I do a read and a write at the same time, speed goes bad and I cannot solve the problem until I reboot the Windows VM. May it be some locking issue?

With Linux (kernel 2.6), the behavior is correct.

Thanks,
Enrico
