zipslack logon problem on installation

Hi,

I have just installed zipslack (from slackware 11 distribution). When I run it I get to a login prompt but then nothing happens. I can type in a user name ( root) and press return, but just get a newline. Eventually I get the login prompt appears again, and so on.

Any ideas anyone? I have swapped in a couple of different keyboards, just in case, but without any result.

How old is the computer you are using. If the computer is not old enough that might be the problem. Did you install into a fat32 formatted partition? You do know that zipslack has no gui, just has command line interface. Why do you want to use zipslack.

Hello Purple,

The computer is new but the spec is 486DX. It is an ebox 3300 designed mainly for embedded work. Everything else runs fine on it. Zipslack is installed on a fat32 partition (on a cf card) so that is not the problem. I know also that there is no GUI out of the box. Command lines give me warm nostalgic feelings.

The problem seems to me that for some reason zipslack is not reading the keyboard input correctly - although it is echoing the keystrokes to the screen. Specifically it is not picking up the carriage return at the end of the username. I just wondered if it was a known problem with this distribution of zipslack.

Why zipslack rather than slackware itself? Mainly the size and convenience. Everything should run on the hardware I have and I can expand it as I wish over time.

( Kernel ) panic over.

I have installed zipslack 10 instead of zipslack 11 and it does what it says on the tin. Thanks Purple for your response.
