upgrading Slackware13.37 to Slackware 14.1

Hi all,
I have Slackware 13.37 installed on a laptop. I also have a Slackware 14.1 DVD. Unfortunately the cdrom in the laptop died.
I read on Slackware website that installation is possible using the kennel loopback device. But the instructions are a bit difficult to understand.
Can anyone just give me some pointers or references so that I can install Slackware.
Thanks for reading.

If this laptop is able to boot off an USB device (you can check that in the BIOS menu), get a Slint installer for Slackware 14.1, burn it on an USB stick, reboot with the USB stick plugged-in, set your BIOS to boot off USB, install.

See this page for detailed instructions and download the hybrid (DVD + USB) ISO image from this other page.

Of course before doing that, make a backup of all the files you wouldn't want to loose.

You can also take the upgrade path of course, but IMO that's more difficult and error prone, considering that you'll have to make two upgrades (upgrading from 13.37 directly to 14.1 is not supported).

Hi all,
Thank you for the messages upon posted. I read them all and as usual there was still much to read and understan . Slint has come off as a beautiful project. Will download that later.
As usual there answer to the problem was provided as a text file in the isolinux folder of the DVD.
Thank you all again.
