Upgrading from Slackware32 to Slackware64

I would like to upgrade from slackware 13.1 (with updates, etc.) to slackware64. I have updated some of the packages to support other applications which I have installed. Some of the new applications were from and others I just downloaded the source and compiled them. Can I just do an "upgradepkg" on the distribution or do I have to wipe out everything and start from scratch. What about the added applications?

An upgrade is probably possible, but personally I wouldn't bother. Just backup what you need and do a fresh install. Anything you built from SlackBuilds you will want to recompile for 64 bit anyway.

OK. I am writing this from a windows machine :>(
I saved my data files and wiped out my linux partitions. I used the dvd I burned from the slackware mirrors and did a full install. Everything looked great!! I booted my new install and everything looked good until it was time to login. I got the prompt and then my compaq keyboard froze. I could not even type in "root" for a username. control-alt-delete does not work. Now what???
