Question Unable to load Slackwar 12.2 from hard drive

I have been trying to install Slackware on a DOS 30 Gbyte partition.
It is a Maxtor 40GByte hard drive. The first partition is 10GBytes for
Windows and the second partition is 30 GBytes for Linux. At this time I would like to know if this version can be loaded onto a DOS platform. I want to load this onto a DOS platform to try it out. The "A" series files are on /dev/hda1(C:\ drive) and I am trying to install the Slackware 12.2 onto a 30 GByte /dev/hda5(E:\ drive). The Install program finds the files all right but then the Install stops right after the INSTALL function. There are no error messages. It goes back and tells me I have to complete the previous steps. All the information I downloaded from Slackware.com is either obsolete or outdated on this subject. I would
any help on this problem. Thank you
Vince.....

Hi,

Welcome to Slackware!

For future problems you can look at
'SlackwareŽ Essentials' and 'SlackwareŽ Basics' which are good books to reference for problems or solutions to other possible problems.

Looks like you are attempting to install to a logical on the extended partition. As long as the partition is prepared with the filesystem of choice then I see no reason to worry.

If you use the 12.2 boot cd1/dvd you will need to format the partition so the filesystem is created. '30GB' is more than enough space for the install. This can be done within the 'setup' or from the 'cli' with the 'mkfs' front end.

Once you boot the system with the install media you can do a 'fdisk -l' to show the disk information. Please post that?

Thank you Onebuck,
I just downloaded the Slackware Basics file yesterday and have not had time to read it all. It seems to have what I am looking for.
