ok... glad the disk works

now first try different settings in BIOS so the error messages go away in
dmesg | grep hd

set the HD to autodetect... then try user settings with LBA or NORM.. just try to get the error away...
you might just need to make sure all the cables are connected firmly ;-)... also try different jumper settings on the hd... put it on master in stead of one drive only.... i've had weird things make lilo suddenly work...

I tried switching the drive settings, checking the jumper and cable, and reinstalled LILO but it still doesn't work. (Maybe the BIOS is anti-Linux)

OK UbErBeAsT... let's try something else. you can seriously fuck up your filesystem with this.. don't blame me if it goes wrong...
Code:
nes@nes [/home/nes> fdisk /dev/hda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 24792.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help): a
Partition number (1-4): 1

Command (m for help): w
bla bla write patition table...
so at the prompt press 'a'(enter) then choose the first partition.. this will toggle the first partition as boot partition...
then in lilo conf change
Code:
boot = /dev/hda1
rerun lilo and reboot
lilo's not in the MBR anymore...

It finally boots!
I added a new HD and it works fine now. I think there may have been something wrong with the old HD's MBR.
Thanks for everyones help!
