Sound works for root, but not users

Salix64 14.1. MATE, and fluxbox, sessions.

In MATE, there is a speaker icon on the panel, with an 'x' by the speaker. When I click on the speaker, I get this message:"The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured."

That happens for every user.

When I log in as root, in the MATE environment, everything works fine.

I have deleted, and recreated, the user accounts a few times, but I keep getting the same problem.

Also, when I try to add codecs, I am prompted for a the user's password. I am certain that I enter the password correctly, but I keep getting re-prompted with a "permission denied" message. The same thing happens when I try that gslapt update.

Run

Code:
grep audio /etc/group
Have a look at who is in the audio group and make sure all your users are.

groupadd -aG audio username

That did it, thank you.

One small thing, I used:

Code:
usermod -aG audio username
