Slackware installation via telnet?

Hello,

I want to install slackware on an embedded device. It is a PPC architecure, so I'll use the binaries provided by slackintosh.

The embedded device already has a very rudimentary linux 2.4 running, I can access it via telnet and ftp. I would like to install Slackware 10.2 and kernel 2.6. I have to use a patched kernel for the embedded platform, so I cannot use the original linux kernel.

How can I install Slackware (Slackintosh) on this device, when I can't boot the standart slack kernel (and I can't boot from floppy, cdrom, etc)?
What would I have to do to install slackware via telnet and ftp with a custommade kernel?

Thank you very much.

I am no expert on embedded devices (nor even an amateur) but in these curcumstances don't you usually set it (ie: slackintosh) up on a host system and then manually copy the files over to the device?

You are right. But my problem is, that I don't have a PPC host system. So I cannot just copy the files.

Does the device have a serial port. If so, you could try to use a serial console. More information can be found in the Serial Console HOWTO:

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Remote-Serial-Console-HOWTO/

FWIW, NetBSD also has very good support for this kind of installation.

Hi,

I wonder if you could zip an installed system or the install cd? Then just ftp and unzip the tarball on your storage media. You could then work from there.
