Hi, I have been up all night trying to install Slackware 12. I found cfdisk really hard to work with. I was only able to use it to install swap partition. Did't give me a type choice for /root or /home. Had to install those partitions using PC Linux live cd...!?
When installation was complete the system reboots and asks for login: at hostname prompt. The host name I gave it. I was never asked to create login id for host. It did ask me to recreate root password but not hostname.
At completion of insallation I am being prompted for hostname login and I don't know what to type.
As someone told you in your other post, you really should read the slackbook, not because here you won't get help if you need it, it's because those questions are already cover in the slackbook, and many others you could have.
Other thing is that you should continue in the post you've already opened, because your questions here are related to the other pots.
Finally, I will sugest that, if you have any operating system functional in your PC (windows or linux), try the slackware installation in a virtual machine, you can use vmware server or workstation, virtualbox or qemu, since you seem to have too much trouble to install slackware, is you best shot without attempting to harm your system
Type your root password, that's what it's asking for.
Also, you designate your partitions as / (root) or /home during the system setup, and cfdisk just creates partitions...
I agree with several people here. You should read the Slackbook. You'll save a lot of hair.

Thanks for all the responses. Believe me I have already tried root password. It asks me for a login and password. During the network configuration I was asked for a hostname. I.e. name of PC. So now during boot it is prompting me with that host name and a login: prompt
So I guess it is asking for a username of some sort and a password. I never was given an option to create such a login. But i have tried every variation including root password. Keeps saying Login incorrect...
I have also rifled through the slack book, but found the description for cfdisk nothing like what I found.
OK, let me get some sleep first. I will go through in more detail tomorrow and let you all know...
At the hostname login: promt type root (thats the default user.
You will now be prompted for password use the password you choose during installation.
About the slackbook i can only tell you to read it because it will explain how slackware works.
But not everything in the book is up to date (or at least i think so).
