Slackware 9.1 Install from floppy help
Hi, I am currently in the process of switching from winXP to Slackware Linux 9.1. I haven't used any of the Linux distros before so I thought that a more difficult distro would help me learn quicker.
I have the 2 install CDs and I am trying to install to a SATA drive. (ICH5 controller I theenk)
I am aware that there is no kernel supporting SATA on the Slack CD so I have downloaded a couple.
I downloaded Bonecrusher's satabare.i bootdisk and when i boot it it comes to the boot: prompt. When i hit enter here, it starts to load but the stops at:
loading vmlinuz.........
Boot failed. Change disks and press any key
I am assuming that it failed to load vmlinuz, why?
Am i missing a step or do i need to pass some paramaters to the kernel before install?
i have also tried JollyRogers' SATA bootdisks (ICH5.i & sata.i) with the same results.
I really don't know where to go from here, any help is appreciated, and please bare with me as I am a complete newbie to Linux.
Josh
