Slackware 14.0 Install from 16GB USB

How do I do this?

What I've done so far: Burned the 4CDs @ 4-8x, tried to install but input/output errors repeat, that's it.

I want to do this through Windows....

Did you do a md5sum check on each .iso file before you burned it? If not, you may have errors on the download.

Did you burn the .iso files as iso images?

Can you explain what you mean by this?

It might help if you tell us what the hardware is you are trying to install this on. Some older cd drives need special attention.

If you want to install from a USB stick, here is a how to.

 This is Linux... Windows is a vulgar word.

Now that we have that out of the way.... if you find a mirror with the actual iso's you should be able to find a directory called "usb-and-pxe-installers". It is under the normal, non-iso, branch. (ex. slackware-14.0) In that folder you will find 3 important and a couple semi-important files.

  • README_USB.TXT
  • usbboot.img
  • usbimg2disk.sh
The readme file will tell you exactly how to perform a USB install. It's pretty cut and dry.

If you insist on doing it from windows, then unetbootin has a graphical windows port. It will help write that usbboot.img file to a USB flash drive. Make sure the drive is FAT32 and empty before you start. It will erase the flash drive and write the image to it.
