Slackware 12.2 hangs during package install (LVM and dual+ boot machine AMD64)

Attempting to install slack 12.2 from burnt DVD image (md5 checksum is good)
I have also attempted to install using DVD and packages from mounted directory (extracted from good iso image), and have reburnt disc multiple times.

Everytime time I have the same issue, have setup everything ready to install and then during package install the process fails at the svgalib-helper package, freezes and is completely unresponsive.

My partition is an LVM volume of 15GB if that makes a difference.
Following some suggestions from other posts I have tried opening another terminal and leaving it open, still freezes.

I have tried moving from a seperate /boot and /home partition to have everything under /

I have Ubuntu 8.10 & Fedora 10 in other logical volume in the same volume group. I'm coming back to linux after not using it for a few years and really would prefer to be using good old slack.... any help would be much appreciated.

Any further detail I can provide later when at home.

This happened to me too, also using the slack 12.2 dvd. I tried this on a Core2Duo, on a completely clean sata drive, so it isn't just your setup causing the problem.

In the end, I think I just went back to using the 12.1 cds, as I didn't feel like downloading the 12.2 cds. However, if you want 12.2, give the cds a try. As far as slack, I've had problems with dvds in two different releases, but the cds have always worked for me.

I would avoid installing svgalib_helper initially (do not choice a full install, but an expert one or something like that) and add it afterward.

Shakezilla's suggestion worked. The CDs installed no problem.

I've had trouble booting though and found out I need to add an initrd image to work with LVM (something the slack installer doesn't do apparently (as per this guide).

So went to do a re-install (probably didn't need to but hey) and now CD's hang in same place as DVD SVGALIB-helper

will try expert install shortly.
