Slackware 11 SMP (dual core), reiserfs and SATA
 

I have an HP pavilion AMD64 Athlon dual core with an SATA drive.

I was able to install Slackware 11 using the huge26.s kernel.

I want to use all of my processor...how do I move to the 2.6.x-smp kernel on the DVD and get everything that is currently working to still work without? I don't want to recompile a kernel?

Is this possible?

Is there a howto for using the SMP kernel and SATA and reiserfs on Slackware 11?

From what I know, you will have sata support along with reiserfs support using the huge26.s but for smp support, you have to recompile the kernel. So basically you can learn how to recompile which is easy after being shown or you can use 1 cpu

There is an smp kernel package in /extras on the DVD. Just install the kernel package, the modules package and the headers package and you should be done.

I've done 2.4 kernels in the past.... I just hate the process... I never feel like it is done right.

But I followed the kernel part on that page and it worked great.

I know what you are going through, I was feared to compile the first kernel.
Now I'm feeling safe, mostly (depends on how much I "hack" him) :]
