Slackware 10.0 install problem...

I am trying to install Slackware 10.0, but I get this after I press enter for the first time, and the install just stops:

hdg: attached ide-disk driver

Anyone know what this means?

Hi, and welcome to LQ,

And no, I don't know the answer to that off the top
of my head. What is your hardware setup?

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: I'm moving your thread to Linux-Distributions - Slackware - Install
to give it the exposure it deserves.

My setup is:

2.80 GHz P4
512GB RAM PC270
512GB RAM PC400
ATI Radeon 9200SE
120GB HDD
12GB HDD
DVD-ROM Drive
CD-RW Drive
Windows XP Pro

I don't know how much more is relevant...

Stuff I noticed that had IDE in it:

So you do have four IDE buses in that box.
Which device is connected to what? What's
the master on the fourth port (hdg)?

Cheers,
Tink

How do I find out what they are connected to?

My G drive is my CD-RW drive if that helps...

You could try unplugging drives to see which is at fault... Unplug 1 disk drive or cd drive at a time and reboot. If the problem clears after unplugging your device you have the culprit. Let me know how it goes.

I have exactly the same problem. Also with the Slackware 10.0 install. Except it freezes right after:

hde: attached ide-disk driver

My system is a 2.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM, IDE HDD, IDE DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. My IDE devices config looks very similar to triplej3000's configuration:
2 Intel 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage controllers
2 Primary IDE channels
2 Secondary IDE channels.

It's no use trying to take out one of the drives, because each is essential for the install: I only have 1 CD-ROM, 1 HDD.

Can anyone help me with this?

well.....dunnu the exact error, but you could try the good old floppy -install.
make 1 boot & 2 root floppys using rawrite on windows. use them to do the install, and find out
about the error using Slackware....( used it myself a few days ago cuz cd wouldn't boot )

The older kernel doesn't (yet) support SATA. What I do, is use the options of:
bare.i hdg=noprobe

and it skips my SATA drive (as if it's not connected), and then I can install slack on another partition of another HD.

Apparently you can upgrade the kernel to a later one which will support sata - I've not yet tested that though.
