I'd say the first thing to do is to confirm that your internet connection in fact does work, either via a ping or by using a non-GUI browser. Using
www.yahoo.com for illustration purposes try either one of the following
1. Open a terminal session and enter: ping
www.yahoo.com
You should get something like the following (press ctl-c to break)
64 octets from 66.94.230.34: icmp_seq=1 ttl=55 time=18.5 ms
64 octets from 66.94.230.34: icmp_seq=2 ttl=55 time=19.0 ms
64 octets from 66.94.230.34: icmp_seq=3 ttl=55 time=17.5 ms
64 octets from 66.94.230.34: icmp_seq=4 ttl=55 time=18.1 ms
2. Open a terminal session and enter: lynx
www.yahoo.com
lynx is a purely text based browser, and you should get the main Yahoo home page, just without any graphics whatsoever.
If neither one works, then it's your connection, not the browser. I recognize that this post won't solve the problem, but hopefully it will at least allow you to narrow down the possible factors. Good luck with it -- J.W.
