Slack 10 won't boot after laptop install

I'm not dual booting or anything, just a complete clean install of Slack 10. Everything installs correctly, I set up LILO to boot from the MBR. After installation is complete, I reboot only to have a no operating system found error.

Mandrake and Fedora install and boot with no problems. Any clue what's going on here?

Reboot with the CD or a boot floppy and try mounting your ne installation as the root file system. When you see this- boot :
type: mount root=/dev/hda1 ro
substituting the correct hd?? for where you installed.
If it mounts OK then you just need to fix your lilo config.

Just got around to fooling with the laptop again.

I used the 2nd Slack CD to boot off the hard drive. checked LILO.CONF and everything looks cool. I ran LILO again, and after rebooting the laptop reports "Hard Disk boot sector invalid".

Is there some BIOS option that's assuming a Windows boot sector should be there and just halting? That would be rather stupid.

Any further suggestions?

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted here...
anyhow, I've had similiar problems with an HP laptop I was working on. I was able to get it to boot by using the slack 10.1 install disk, and at the boot prompt typing:

bare.i root=/dev/hda2 noinitrd ro

Of course, you can replace the hda? with the correct partition number.
I've yet to edit LiLo config...will post more as I find out.

Hope this help!

Hmmmm. it sounds like you didn't actually install Lilo to the MBR. You may want to reinstall Lilo.
