Slack 10 keeps installing "/" under "/mnt". Why ?
 

I have tried to install Slackware 10, but I noticed that all the bin root directories were mounted under /mnt, as opposed to / , which is extremely annoying. I obviously told Slack to install everything under / , but to no avail.

I have reformatted my whole disk, deleted the partition table with

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1

installed windows xp first,
then installed slack 10 on /

but this keeps happening. I think it happens because the first time I tried to install the distro, it asked where I wanted my Win partition to be created, and it just said /mnt. This seems to have remained for ever.

Does anyone have a clue ?

it installs under /mnt, and then when you reboot, it's not.
do you mean when you boot the slackware system, your root and boot and stuff are all subdirectories of /mnt?

Well, I have not managed to reboot because Lilo seems to create conflicts with my PC, so this is what I try to do :

I install Windows first,
then I install slackware 10 without Lilo, and I do not reboot yet.
then I try to install Grub 0.94 from a USB key drive. That is where I have a problem because Grub installs in /usr/local/sbin, whereas before rebooting slackware, as everything is mounted under /mnt, it should install in /mnt/usr/bin ?

Am I correct ?

Or put differently, how can I install a grub bootloader without installing lilo on Slackware ?

You could download the grub package from linuxpackages.net and install it individually after finishing your slack install. But it'll still be easier to just reboot your system with bootdisk or whatever and then install grub so it knows where to install easily.
