says im missing modules.dep

First off, i want to thank you guy again for all the help u've given me. i rarely post(im a noob but i did help one person) but read on a near daily basis. Now for my question.

Ive installed Slack 10 and 10.1 from good ISO's and each time i get a "missing /lib/(i forgot this part)/modules.dep" error. Ive also had a few more erros pop up from time to time for some odd reason such as Mozilla and netscape failing to install. This last install of 10.1 got everything but the modules.dep file. strange thing is that the file is there when i check it manuall and there are things written in it.

This error as u might have guess doesnt let me turn on my network card or anyother modules. Would it help if zero'ed those partitions(and how)? I would prefer to run the 2.6.x kernel but i can live w/ a working 2.4.26.

System specs:
P4 2.26
631 Ram
Nvidia 4600
Asus mobo

Did you do a fresh install or an upgrade over top of an existing one?
I've found that the best way to avoid repeating a problem is to start with a fresh clean install. You can always back up the personal stuff you need to keep.

As far as the kernel goes, you can always compile a 2.6 kernel for your fresh new install if you need it.

i've done a fresh install each time. I also still get random errors on a package or 2 during install. Im starting to think it might be my cd-rom or something b/c i installed Suse 9.1 real quick(well...quick is a relative word) one day and it had errors. I guess ill try switching cdroms and report back. Thanks guys for even looking at my ?.
