If you want to run Wine I suggest that you download the precompiled binaries for Slackware from
http://www.winehq.com/site/download

You will need to follow the directions in the README file from Step 5.

Some tips ( based on my experience with wine-20040408):

The vital registry entries can be added using /usr/bin/regedit

The Slackware tools to process SGML files are:
docbook2html (use this with the -u option), docbook2ps, docbook2ps, docbook2txt
(I could not get the 'make doc' script to run successfully, but the documentation can be unpacked manually. Otherwise just use the WineHQ website.)

You will need to be running XFree4.4.0 or later.
The file libXxf86dga.so.1 is in this release and as your post shows that this file is missing it suggests that you may need to upgrade your Xwindows.

I hope this helps.

Hi Damian,

Please check whether you have this file.
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXxf86dga.so.1

If not then I think that you will need to upgrade your Xwindows system.
I had to upgrade to XFree86 4.4.0 to run Wine-20040408.
If you are running KDE you can check what version you are running by:
K -> System -> Info Center -> X Server
otherwise check the /var/log directory for XFree86.0.log or similar and look in that

I have not tried the latest Wine release, but it may require the latest Xwindows.

Regards,

David

wine error & Xwin > v4

Hi,
if you get that error, just find and install this slack pack:

X11-libs-6.9.0-5.i386.tgz

Google it, and pronto, enjoy:)
