Put CD 1 of Slack in your machine and boot from it. When you do, it will tell you how to boot your Linux installation. It may be putting something like "root=/dev/hdxx" at the "boot:" prompt, but read what it says. After that, log in, become root and just run "/sbin/lilo". That should re-install LILO to your MBR.

Boot with cd1, and at the 'boot:' prompt, type in whatever it says right above that...'root=/dev/...." or whatever (I don't have my bootdisk handy, so...Remember to change /dev/hda1 to whatever hdd partion you installed slackware into)

After it boots, login as root, and type 'liloconfig', choose the 'expert' option, and just go down the list. Remember to install to the mbr.

Good. One question, though. I have SUSE installed, too. Will LILO pick this up automatically and include it, or do I need to do this myself?

When you run 'liloconfig', you should run it in 'expert' mode, and tell it what you have on there.

To help out a little, run 'fdisk -l' before you run 'liloconfig'. That way, you'll know what partitions have what on them.

You are very welcome.

Is everything running good now?

Um, sort of. I'm sure it's my mistake, though. Slackware is booting fine, and I now know how to reinstall LILO. Instead of booting SUSE, though, it hangs in an infinite loop. (I didn't note the message.) So, temporarily I have gone back to SUSE's grub because I need a running system until I have Slack ready - and can then tell SUSE goodbye.

Here is the meat of lilo.conf:

Code:
boot = /dev/hda
...
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/hda3
  label = SUSE9.3
  read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/hda1
  label = Slackware10.2
  read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
The partitions and paths are correct, but I think the image statement is in the wrong place because I haven't yet told it which partition at that point. Still, like I said, Slackware boots with this, no problem.
